Fall 2016 Walk to White Oak Elementary

Event raises awareness of the CC Trail.

White Oak Students, Parents, Teachers, and Residents mark you calendar for Wednesday, October 5th for the National Walk to School Day! Come join in the approximate half mile walk from Cape Carteret Lowes Home Improvement to White Oak Elementary School. Walkers need to arrive at 7:15AM and the walk to school will begin at 7:30AM. This event helps raise awareness of the need for safe walking and biking trails in our community. The walk will be supervised by local law enforcement. We are promoting active living and the extension of our path construction. For more information, please contact Terri Brett 252-393-3990

We had a great turnout for our Spring 2016 Walk to School event (see photos here) and we anticipate even more support for the 2016 Fall event.

Trail location

The Cape Carteret Trail will be a 3.1 mile closed loop trail around our wonderful town. The completed Trail will follow Highway 24, Highway 58 and Taylor Notion Road Corridors. The Trail will utilize existing trail segments (Highway 24 walkway connecting to White Oak Elementary School, and segment around Handi Mart Gas Station). The trail will be an asphalt surface ranging from 8-10 feet wide. The project will include exercise areas, parks, gardens, wooded areas, and benches along the way.

"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has." ~ Margaret Mead
